Bush Survival & Bush Cooking
Bush Survival & Bush Cooking
The Bush Survival Day can occupy the whole day from 9.30 to 4.00pm. Or can be shortened to allow for the inclusion of a 2 hour afternoon activity on the high ropes.
One of Valley Homestead's enduring activities, the Bush Survival program teaches the skills of safe and effective camp fire lighting and billy boiling in a well supervised session prior to students then being isolated in the bush in groups of approximately 10.
Each group is given a box of food to be cooked, a box of matches, a billy of water and some foil.
The group cook their lunch and also are required to build a stretcher to transport their snake bite victim back to the Bush Activity Centre
Instruction is given during the morning session on various aspects of coping in the bush including bush fire survival, emergency procedures, snake bite treatment and other related topics. The end of the day includes a 'debrief' with each group reporting, followed by a demonstration of each group's stretcher in action.
Bush Cooking
Under the supervision of your staff (briefed by us), the group will make fruit scones and cook them in camp ovens and enjoy a cup of billy tea or milo with their cooking. This is a 2 hour activity which rotates with other selected activities.
