Cycling

Just metres from our front gate is the bitumenised Murray to Mountains Rail Trail. Bright is 18 kilometres, Myrtleford is 10 kilometres, and the riding possibilities are limitless. A bicycle, helmet and commercially bottled water are provided. It is recommended groups bring a mobile phone for complete convenience. Whilst groups supervise and manage themselves, Valley Homestead does provide support or back up if needed and will also provide instructors should this be required.

Murray To Mountains Rail Trail

Valley Homestead is particularly fortunate in its location especially if you are a bike rider. Road bikers have the Great Alpine Road at our front gate whilst the Rail Trail, graded and sealed, is only a short distance away from the road. Both the road and the Rail Trail provide excellent access to countless hours of bicycle touring. Round trips through Porepunkah, Bright, over Tawonga Gap to Mt Beauty and back down the Kiewa Highway to Yackandandah, or perhaps the Happy Valley Road, will bring you back to Myrtleford and then to Valley Homestead.

The 94 kilometre bitumen sealed Rail Trail follows historic railway lines and reminds travellers of the region's 19th century gold inspired heritage. Many of those early gold seekers pushed their iron wheeled barrows along similar routes up the Ovens Valley and north east to Beechworth.

The Trail is most safe for youngsters and takes the worry of traffic out of cycling.

Valley Homestead is a half day ride from Wangaratta (or full day if you stop off at any of the wine and food attractions en-route), and welcomes you with resort style facilities, including spa pools to ease the aches!
